Hello Friends, Our Today Topic is the Chipko Movement.
Although there were many movements in this history, but the Chipko movement leaves its own distinct mark in all of them. The Chipko movement started in 1973 from Raini village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
The Chipko movement is related to the environment. In the Chipko movement, people clung to the trees to save them from cutting down trees. That is why it was named Chipko Movement. Chipko movement was started to conserve trees and mountain.
The Bishanoi community also protested in the 18th century because the king in Jodhpur area there had ordered the cutting of trees but the people there protested under the leadership of Eemrata Devi and clung to the trees and sacrificed their lives. After the incident, the king there ordered that trees will not be cut wherever the Bishnoi community resides. Thus the origin of the Chipko movement is also considered from here. But the origin of the modern Chipko movement is from 1973 in chamoli district.Chipko movement leader- The Chipko movement was started by chandiparshad bhatt and Gora Devi. It was later led by the famous Sunderlal Bahuguna of India. That is why Sundarlal Bahuguna is known as Varkshamitra and Gora Devi as Chipko woman.
